RE: Gator Meat.......The Breakfast of Champions

In Baton Rouge, La. we usually call it "Tiger Bait" but not this year. So Chomp, Chomp, Chomp Gators. Dave

RE: Heisman watch

Darn it Katuna, I forgot the #1 Dud of all time, Ricky Williams who just happened to be drafted by the Saints also. They have a dismal record on #1 picks, one you probably remember from Georgia, DL Johnathan Sullivan. He got his bonus money and a high$$$$$$ contract and then sat on his butt. My thoughts on Tebo in the Pro's were as Tight End but RB/FB could be great with his passing ability and the little jump pass at the line. With the right coach he could be great. Dave

RE: Heisman watch

Tebow is a heck of a talent and definitely a leader and spark plug. Saw Barry Switzer on a panel show yesterday and he was touting the strength of the Big 12 South. He quoted that the 4 Heisman candidate quarterbacks were better than any in the SEC except Tebow. Also said how much LSU and Auburn would have loved to have any one ot them. Irony is Ryan Perriloux initially chose Texas and Colt McCoy was headed to Tiger Town, then Perriloux changed his mind. I personally think the Heisman should be a one time thing even if a player wins it as a Freshman. Katuna, you know about the Heisman curse in the NFL since 1990. Question is, if Tebow wins the 2nd. one, will he be twice as bad as Wuerffel as a pro? Our Saints have been fortunate enough to have 2 Heisman Duds, Wuerffel and Reggie Bush. Do whatever Rah Rah'n you can do and make sure the Gators are up for the game Saturday. Sure would love to see them play the Sooners in Miami. Dave

RE: Ever have a day where EVERYTHING went right.....?

Not very often. Usually when it starts off good, I get to thinking about what might be even better and screw it up. Here in Cajun Country we have what's known as Boudreaux's Law, you know about Boudreaux and Thibodaux right? Boudreaux says: "Murphy was and Optimist". Dave

RE: Luckenbach Texas

I agree about Lukenbach being a state of mind. Weekends bikers, yuppies, tourists, ranchers, college kids all come there and never any problems. Our good friends live about 2 miles thru the woods from there, off of 290 and on weekends if the wind is right you can hear the music from their house. But you've just got to go over there, even if you just sit outside the dance hall and listen, drink your Shiner Bock and just chill. Also on the Fm road where you turn off of 290 to Lukenbach, Fredericksburg KOA is on that corner, about 4or5mi. Dont miss it. Dave

RE: Golf Ball Question

downtheroad Yep Tiger can probably do that but you've got to understand what he plays with regularly. Nike runs thousands of balls through their QC measuring system and he gets only about .001% of them, the all hit the same. The rest go to pro shop, Edwin Watts, etc. His and most touring pro's clubs are finely tuned to their swings and can be adjusted at the tournament. If you wanted to watch someone do what you suggested, Lee Trevino or Calvin Peete were two of the best. These guys started as caddys, learned to play and "hustled" golf for a living before turning pro. To hustle anything, golf, pool, tiddlywinks, you've got to be good but also a heck of a salesman to persuade your opponent he has an advantage when he really doesn't. Tiger never had to do that. Most money is won or lost at the 1st tee box before anyone hits a ball. One of Trevino's more famous quotes when asked about a pressure putt to win a $$$$$$$ PGA tournament. "Pressure, that's not pressure. Pressure is playing a $5 Nassau (which can get very serious $$$$ wise) with $10 in your pocket. Now that's pressure". Dave

RE: College football - week 14

Well for the 6th time this season Les Miles has been totally outcoached. I've always been taught when you get a man/team down, kick em where it hurts most. Had several chances to do that today but turned em loose. Think I'll mix a large strong one or 3. What a dissapointing season. I'm with fishingrv, bring on baseball season and see if our guys can get to Omaha. Back to football though, will be rootin for whatever they call themselves this week from Eastern Alabama against Bama tomorrow. Guess also will have to root for the Sooners and see how the Big 12 does their tie-breakers. Whoever wins the South will beat the North. Dave

RE: How Important Is Tradition?

Well the Lions lived up to their tradition. I just have a hard time getting interested in Pro Football till the playoffs start. Now and then I'll watch the Saints for a little while, not often. Dave Dave

RE: Golf Ball Question

Jim As Doug 4.7 said at the level you're at there are balls that work for most anyone. Just not a lot of difference in the quality. Now if your game progresses and you get into the low 2 digit or single digit handicap then the ball becomes a factor. Been there done that. Back in the late 80s used to play 4+ times a week. It's just about trusting you swing that it will be the same everytime. Best way to really improve your game is get into a semi/friendly $$ game. Does wonders. Nobody likes to lose and if it persists you'll do something about it, lessons, practice, etc. Dave

RE: Which Coach Is Better??? (College Football)

Seems like this has evolved into a Rah Rah session. Saturday night the Sooners were unbeatable, had a point to prove. Even the talking heads mentioned "Style Points" concerning the BCS. Sure hope they get to play the Gators in the Big Game. As far as coaches, don't know much about Rodriguez but Weiss is a Dudddd. Face it, the Irish don't play that tough of a schedule. Between them and USC in the not too distant past, as far as the press was concerned no other teams should even bother playing. Irish have had some great teams but they sure have had some losers in semi recent history and Weiss is prepetuating that tradition. Dave

RE: SR-71

Thanks for the link. If anyone hasn't read the book "The Skunk Works" by all means do. It deals with Kelly Johnson and his team of high tech hotrodders at Lockheed who worked outside the Corporate structure at a design and prototype center at the Burbank airport. Using lots of existing production parts they built planes for the Pentagon and usually gave them money back from the design budget. A large section is devoted to the Blackbird and some of the "routine" missions over Russia, China, etc. Building the U-2, F-104 Starfighter, SR-71 and the Stealth fighter, they have an enviable record that came from thinking outside the box. I'll forward the clip to several of my pilot buddys. Dave

RE: College football - week 13

Well, the Red Raiders are gonna have to have a hell of 2nd half to make my prediction of having to score 50pts to win by 3 come true. So much for my predicting skills. Sooners have looked awesome so far, been in total control from the 1st play. Might be a heck of BCS Championship against the Gators, maybe then my prediction will happen. Dave

RE: College football - week 13

fishingrv Long day in Tiger Stadium. Les Miles was so outcoached as he has been quite a few times this year. Yep it's the start of the 09 season. Couldn't understand the total lack of a running game. 2 goofy calls on fair catches. Get ready for the Weedeater Bowl. Gonna mix a giant toddy to watch the offensive show in Norman, Ok. Probably gonna take 50 points to win by 3. Dave

RE: Easiest route from Amarillo, TX to Red River, NM

Brick Brain If you're thinking of going W. on I-40 then N. don't get into the trap looking at the map of the "shortcut" from San Jon on NM469 to Logan and then NM 39 on to Abbott where you pick up US412. Did that route several yrs ago going from Clovis to Red River. NM39 to Mosquero is probably the roughest paved road I've ever been on and that's coming from a Louisiana native. Only saving grace is ther's no traffic so you can straddle the center line which is slightly smoother. Also be aware that once you top Bobcat pass it's pretty steep, so keep the speed down because when you get to the bottom you're "IN" Red River and +-30mph speed zone. Enjoy Dave

RE: Trace/Xantrex Inverter Woes

GBaxter A belated thanks for your input. At a FMCA chapter rally last week, had some show coaches from Motorhomes of Texas. On Saturday their Tech Supvisor came to drive back one of the coaches. Had him look at the inverter and his conclusion was the RC6 panel. After reading your post went to the storage barn, backed the coach out & without AC power, all inverter outlets are working. Even turned the fridge and TV on. Everything works. Did buy a modular jumper cable while at the rally with no response from the RC6. Checked the 12V power at the inverter today as suggested and it's good, 12.8V. Did contact the Xantrex service outlet in Al. and they can get another RC6 for +-$150. Your thoughts??? Dave

RE: Country Coach Veranda

A dealer had several show coaches at our FMCA chapter rally last weekend and featured the Veranda. Nice coach from CC, except for the PORCH. I agree, probably a passing fad, might be good for tailgating or as the other poster said "handicapped". But at near $600K MSRP,I wasn't impressed at all. Dave

RE: College football - week 11

Katuna A real nail biter if there ever was one. 4 interceptions for the Tigers, 2 lost fumbles, an interception and blocked kick for Bama. Read the stats in this AM's paper. Pretty durn even game. Tigers had the ball a heck of a lot longer but just couldn't do anything with it. I sure hope Ryan Perriloux is getting cozy with lots of those Coeds in Jacksonville, Al. and never playing on TV. Sure could have used him yesterday. Les Miles had to do what he did, probably waited too long. Assuming the Gators win out, Ole Ball Coach and all, what do you think the spread will be for the game in Etlanna, bet Bama won't be favored even as #1. Dave

RE: Nick Saban

Bama Traveler, Nascarcruisin, etal. Charlie D. said it well, the guy is intense. I don't think that the deragotary remarks were aimed toward St. Nick's coaching ability but his integrity. How many of you have worked at one time or another for a real "Motivator". The guy's good. He has a knack of getting the most out of players, even more than they thought they could do. 2 other college coaches come to mind, Paul Dietzel, who took a bunch of not very talented 4th stringers and called them the Chinese Bandits, played like All Amreicans and Bear Bryant who made everyone play like All Americans. Charlie McLendon was head coach at LSU for 17 yrs. after replacing Paul Dietzel and was fired with an .850 batting average but he couldn't beat the Bear. Nobody else could either. Bad as I hate to admit it, St. Nick seems to have that talent. I'm not really in step with his $$$ motives but that's his and Bama's business. Building a strong fan relationship isn't his strong suit. Putting $$$$$$ in His and Bama's pocket is. Dave

RE: '93 Holiday Rambler 34' questions

Jeff Our 1st MH was a 91 33' Holiday 1000. It was a very good coach, dependable and would get around 8MPH pulling an Accord if you kept the speed 60 less. As the other poster says, the trailer hitch reciever is behind the licensc plate. The roof should be aluminum. We've owned 1 Holiday TT and 2MHs and now the Monaco and have never had a leak in any one of them. Down side on this coach is it's only 93" wide so it can get cramped. Also the Chevy chassis with the skinny 19.5 tires tended to wander a lot. Very smooth ride though with the tag axle and Mor Ride rear suspension. Good Luck, hope it works out. Dave
